Things Can Turn on a Dime

All I can say is wow....what a harrowing day we had yesterday. Things seemed to be going along fine, that was until they decided to give Pat an asthma inhaler. We found out the hard way that he has an adverse reaction to albuterol. Instead of it opening up his airways, it constricted them and sent him downhill quickly. He could barely breathe, they had to put him on oxygen, doctors and nurses were flying in and out of his room trying to stabilze him, to say I was freaking out would be an understatment. I stepped outside the room so Pat couldn't see me, had a good cry with his doctors, told them in no uncertain terms to NEVER give up on Pat and then splashed cold water on my face and went back in. The doctors agreed that Pat is tough and even dubbed him "the Energizer Bunny". Two hours later the "bad medicine" wore off, they removed him from the oxygen, his breathing returned to normal and my old Pat was back. Of course I knew he was back when he "jokingly" blamed me for his attack because I had made him get up and walk earler in the day. This ride is definitely a "white knuckler" and I look forward to the day when we can get off!!!! Once again please continue to pray for Pat's never ending strength and endurance, and for the wisdom of the doctors to heal him once and for all. All he looks forward to is coming home...I thinks he's earned it. Love and good health to all our friends and family.
Love,
Jules

Hi Pat and Julie:

Steve Nieto here.
Paul Chylinski sent me the link to this blog. I haven't read every word yet from your first posting, but you family are in our prayers daily for a complete recovery. This is a terrible roller coaster ride that hopefully will end successfully soon. Toma and I have been asking our brother Dave about Pat from his occassional visits with Vic to see Pat at Hope.
Please know that we are hopeful as you all are that Pat will beat this. Keep up your spirits, Pat. You CAN do this.

Love, Cathy and Steve Nieto

hey - had to share this story with you.. :-) I was at the market yesterday and ran into an old neighbor in our old neighborhood, who told me about a friend of mine who was at Hope...
We have known eachother for 16 years and even though we don't see eachother much cause of our busy lives, when we do, it's like we just talked yesterday... I thought I was going to die when I heard she was at stage 5 lymphoma. I called Richard her husband late last night to find that they had lost her twice last week, her lungs, kidneys and liver all shut down not to mention her heart was at 35% - Do you know, if there is anyone who has faith - it's Linda, I can hear her saying, it's not me it's Jesus! And believe me, she has no doubts about the Lord's healing's. She has had this before and she will beat it again... Well, she had a bone marrow transplant three weeks ago and it took a turn - but now all her vitals are good and she is out of the woods... I thought I needed to share this with you that no matter how bad things get or might seem - NEVER NEVER give up - Richard told the Dr's to do their job and they would theirs with the Lord... The Dr's laugh now with Richard, cause their exact words are, the Lord's working here now... Hang in there you two, you will be home together soon. He didn't bring you this far to let you down...
Take care - Lis and Dave K

We are on our way to church in about 1/2 hour. Please know that I will offer the mass and my communion for you as I have been since the beginning of your illness. I know the Lord has plans for you, and he has given you and your family the courage to beat this. You and your family are loved by so many people. We will all be there for you when you have your "I beat this" party!

We're checking in daily and continue to pray for all of you!!! Juilie, we saw your mom while she was in Streator. We were in Chipper's restaurant, and what a nice surprise to see her. Keep up the good work "Energizer Bunny"!
Blessings,

Hi Pat,

Well, it's sounds like you've gone through just about everything there and, once again, you do keep the blog interesting.

But enough with the drama and let's get you back home! We are all still thinking about you constantly and we are 100% confident that you will make it through this marathon better than ever.

Pat, You are now my energizer brother!! I just got home from work and had a little scare... My front door was wide open with nobody home.. I thought for sure Kobe would be long gone.. Guess what he was just sitting on the couch.. I guess he isn't as smart as I thought he was.. Wouldn't most dogs run away? Anyway, can't wait for you to start your treatment tomorrow and get on with everything.. Hang in there I know with everyone and your strength this is going to be a SUCCESS!! Love ya, Sista Sandy
